Mindfulness, CBT & Hypnotherapy Print E-mail

My name is Aidan Caffrey MCHPA, ADCHP, and I am a Clinical Hypno - Psychotherapist. I have used my knowledge of Hypnotherapy, Psychology and Vipassana meditation (Mindfulness) which I had the privilege of studying under S.N. Goenka in India in the late 1980s, to help make positive changes in my own and others lives.
I have had a practice in Malahide medical centre for the past ten years, and more recently have clinics in Pure health, Ongar and Kathleen Ward health clinic, Lough Egish, Monaghan.
Over the years as a Therapist I have found that using a combination of Mindfulness, CBT and Hypnotherapy have achieved the best results for my clients.
These three paths can be taken separately, but as they have the same final destination, they can be merged, giving you a clearer view of the way ahead.

To give you a brief overview of these approaches to wellness:

Mindfulness is essentially choosing to focus our awareness on the sensations of the body in the present moment, with an attitude of openness, curiosity and acceptance; while acknowledging any thoughts and feelings that may arise and gently returning to the body.
By practicing being aware of where our attention is, moment by moment and gently choosing to change the focus of our attention, we learn to take control of our minds; learning to respond rather than react.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy focuses on how thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are related. The process of CBT aims to improve the way we feel and behave, by identifying and changing certain self limiting and unhelpful thought patterns and beliefs.
It is our interpretation of events that drive our feeling and behaviours, not the events themselves.

Hypnotherapy is used to help bring about subconscious change in the form of new responses, thoughts, beliefs, behaviours or feelings. The therapy is undertaken when in hypnosis. Hypnosis itself is a relaxed state of focused attention in which we have an enhanced capacity for response to suggestion.
All hypnosis is self hypnosis.
